About Steel & Fir
Steel & Fir is a Pacific Northwest fabrication studio specializing in custom furniture, architectural metal and woodwork, CNC-cut components, decorative vessels, and memorial (funerary) urns—built with intention and made to last.
In a world shaped by speed and disposability, we choose a slower, more deliberate path. One rooted in honest materials, thoughtful engineering, and craftsmanship that respects both tradition and innovation. Steel and wood are not just materials to us; they are partners—each bringing strength where the other yields. Precision and warmth. Structure and life.
From furniture and gates to vessels and funerary work, everything we make is designed to endure real use, carry meaning, and age with character rather than wear out.
A Fabrication-First Studio
Steel & Fir is not limited to a single category or medium.
Our work includes custom furniture, welding and structural steel, CNC cutting of metal and wood, powder coating, architectural elements such as gates and railings, decorative bowls and vases made from wood, epoxy, or ceramic, and fully custom memorial (funerary) urns.
We approach each project as a fabrication problem first—balancing form, function, material behavior, and longevity—then refine it through design. This allows us to move fluidly between large architectural pieces and intimate, deeply personal objects without compromising standards.
Whether a piece lives in a home, a building, or serves as a vessel of remembrance, it is built with the same care.
Built for Generations
Heirloom work isn’t about luxury—it’s about responsibility.
Fast furniture and disposable décor depend on constant replacement, shipping, and waste. Building pieces meant to be passed down—whether furniture, architectural elements, or memorial objects—is one of the most environmentally responsible choices a maker or client can make.
When something is built to last decades or generations, it reduces demand for repeated manufacturing, resource extraction, and landfill disposal. Longevity becomes sustainability expressed through design.
We build pieces meant to be lived with, repaired when necessary, and carried forward. Objects that accumulate stories and meaning rather than being discarded when styles change.
Longevity isn’t just good design—it’s stewardship.
“Fast furniture is designed to be replaced.
We build pieces meant to endure.”
Memorial Urns and Vessels
Some objects carry more than function—they carry memory.
Steel & Fir creates custom memorial and funerary urns designed to honor a life with permanence, dignity, and care. These pieces may be crafted from wood, epoxy, ceramic, steel, or materials personally meaningful to the family.
Each urn is designed collaboratively and built as a true one-of-a-kind. We approach this work with discretion, patience, and respect, understanding that these pieces are not simply objects, but vessels of remembrance meant to last for generations.
Craft Over Convenience
We don’t mass-produce. We don’t chase trends.
Much of today’s furniture and décor is designed to be temporary—thin materials, short lifespans, and aesthetics meant to be replaced rather than lived with. This mindset creates unnecessary waste and strips meaning from the objects that surround us.
At Steel & Fir, we build in small runs and one-off commissions using solid woods, structural steel, and durable finishes such as powder coating. Influenced by the forests and industrial heritage of the Pacific Northwest, our work favors permanence, repairability, and restraint.
The result is work that feels grounded, substantial, and quietly confident.
A Collaborative Process
Custom work is a conversation.
From early concepts through design, materials, fabrication, and finishing, we work closely with our clients to ensure each piece reflects both their vision and our standards. Whether the project is a dining table, a CNC-cut gate, a powder-coated steel installation, or a funerary urn, no two projects are ever the same.
That is not a limitation—it is the point.
Every project begins with a conversation.
